Opportunities in Vestland
Vestland is an epicenter for green value chains. The masterplan Grøn region Vestland has identified 19 hubs across the region who serve as focal points for green transformation, enabling the establishment of new value chains throughout the county.
The hubs are located in ares with excisiting activity and the goal is to establish activity creating industrial symbiosis. The clusters represent the most important industries in the region: Ten are classified as energy transiton hubs, five as industrial hubs and five as bio-marine hubs.
To fully realize this aim, collaboration between private and public actors is essential. Matching the right people is a way to valuable collaboration, Invest in Bergen is eager to do our part of the job by attracting foreign companies to settle in our region and contribute to the value creation and ensuring a greener future for the region.
Spots with the highests emission offer the biggets opportunities
With yearly emissions of 7 million tons of Co2 equivalents, Vestland is the region with the highest emission in Norway. The county has a political goal to cut emissions with 55 % by 2030.
The industrial hubs in Vestlandsporteføljen, identified as having significant growth potential, emissions reduction opportunities, are also the spots with the largest emissions.
By adopting circular practices in these hubs, industries within these hubs can optimize how they exploit their resources and enhance their environmental performance. Alternative business models can also resource efficiency. Circular business models prioritize resource recovery, product life extension, and sharing platforms. Businesses that embrace circularity are better positioned for long-term success and resilienc
The region is constantly on search for partners and business ideas that can fit into these circular value chains.
Crossover between industries
The extensive heritage from the ocean industries has allready paved the way for a crossover, which has been key to the growth and development of Norwegian industries.
Examples of this crossover between ocean-based industries and the opportunities they present:
- Knowledge and experience from the harsh subsea environment are being used to build more durable offshore aquaculture farms
- Electric propulsion systems used on ferries are on their way to being adopted on boats for the aquaculture industry
- Subsea competence from the oil and gas activity is being used to develop new ideas for producing and storing hydrogen in the seabed.
